Rafael Della Giustina Leal

Career diplomat for the past 13 years and is the deputy head of the Division of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between March 2011 and April 2014, served at the Political Branch of the Brazilian Embassy in Tehran, following the nuclear negotiations between the P5+1 and Iran, as well as Iranian internal politics. From 2014 to 2018, worked at the Embassy of Brazil in Washington, D.C., also at the Political Branch, followed by a posting at the Embassy of Brazil in Pretoria from 2018 to 2020. Born in Florianópolis, Brazil, in 1977. Graduated in Control Engineering and Automation from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), in 2000, and has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering also from UFSC, thesis topic: "Social and Economic Impacts of Robotization", in 2005. From 2000 to 2002, he was a partner of “Sensys”, a startup developing solutions to project management.
