Players will build an outpost and over time expand it into a thriving city by exploiting natural resources, building up a fleet of powerful ships and defeating enemy factions in combat on land and sea.
Age of Plunder is unique to RTS in that it uses a large open-world style map for a persistent combat experience. Missions will load unique combat location maps, but play will always return to the overworld map when the mission is completed. While there is a set sequential story campaign, there will also be many side missions that all contribute directly to progression and will change how the main missions play.
