The profound and constant transformations in social, cultural, political and economic environments have been accompanied by social research focused on the past, without providing elements for us to act today with perspectives on the future.
The time between the short, medium and long term has narrowed. We must act today, assessing the impact on tomorrow. We need to conceive, invest and work towards a desired future.

Purpose
Our purpose is to help partner institutions read and decipher complex scenarios to formulate strategies and action plans, with the aim of promoting changes in their environments.

Mapeamento da Infraestrutura do Audiovisual naCidade de São Paulo

Research commissioned by the Spcine Observatory – Observatory of the São Paulo City Hall’s film and audiovisual development company – which obtained data on the supply and demand of audiovisual infrastructure, and obstacles to the expansion of the sector in São Paulo. Conducted by the Cultural Initiative, with technical/legal cooperation from Cesnik, Quintino, Salinas Fittipaldi and Valerio

The research objectives include:
Providing support to meet current and future demand for audiovisual production in the city of São Paulo;
Mapping the technical infrastructure of cinema and other audiovisual segments.

Mapeamento do Ecossistema XR no Brasil

Sponsored by Spcine, and in partnership with ICAB, BRAVI, XRBR and ABRAGAMES, the research mapped the Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality Ecosystem in Brazil.

The research objectives include:

▪ Generate data that assist in proposing public policies for the development of technologies and content in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality, in the areas of cinema, audiovisual and games;

▪ Identify companies that already have projects or are starting to develop XR content;

▪ Identify specific demands of these companies in terms of public funding for the sector.

Mapeamento da Animação no Brasil

Sponsored by Spcine and the City of Niterói, the project mapped the animation production chain in Brazil in order to identify and overcome bottlenecks in the sector.

The research was conducted in two stages: quantitative – in which we worked with a semi-structured online questionnaire, and qualitative – in which open and semi-open questions were coded.

The research objectives include:
To conduct a sectoral diagnosis and make market data available;
To understand the development of techniques and processes, how top professionals are trained and the participation of Brazilian animation in the national and international markets.

What makes Danish TV Series Travel: Drama seriesas cultural export, transnational production and reception

Involving academics from Australia, the United States, Brazil, Germany and Turkey, the research investigated what makes Danish TV series circulate transnationally. The research was conducted by the Department of Media Studies/ School of Communication and Culture, Aarhus University, with funding from YDUN (Younger women Devoted to a University career)/ The Danish Council for Independent Research.

The research objectives include:

To investigate all stages of the production system of Danish TV series, from their creation, distribution and reception by the public;

To conduct empirical studies (export, co-production, remakes) and reception (audience studies at three levels) and to engage in dialogue with representatives of the communities around the world that receive and produce these media products (Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Turkey and the United Kingdom).

Published in the book “Cinema and Soft Power”, the study “The Global Animation Market, opportunities for developing countries” sought to discuss how an emerging nation with a strong domestic audiovisual industry, but without a sense of ‘national cinematographic and audiovisual brand’ in the international arena, has worked to increase its visibility.

The study's objectives include:

Case studies on the internationalization of Brazilian animation products and services have shown that soft power can undeniably be used as an instrument of government foreign policy;

The reality of the animation production chain in a country can become an important resource for analysis and planning for development policies in the animation sector, within a planned intervention;

The potential for using animation for foreign policy purposes, along the lines of the theoretical model of soft power developed by Joseph Nye
