Barbarian Axe is a single-player ARPG set in a dark medieval fantasy world. The game features fast-paced hack-and-slash combat, exploration, and a risk/reward system where players lose experience points upon death. Some inspirations for the game are Conan, Diablo, Tibia, Zelda and LOTR.

Players take on the role of Ragnar, a barbarian who is going to fight as a mercenary in a bloody war in the north. On the way he finds a village where the inhabitants are going through a macabre situation. A wizard is taking people and mixing them with animals and other beings, creating new species that are increasingly powerful and horrendous. Monsters of all kinds surround the village and the desperate inhabitants offer what they have to bring back their people. At least those who are still humans.
