The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE or Itamaraty) is the federal executive branch responsible for planning and executing Brazil's foreign policy. In terms of science, technology and innovation, the MRE is responsible for conducting what is known as innovation diplomacy: Actions to promote the internationalization of its innovation ecosystems, with a view to contributing to the generation of skilled jobs and increasing the competitiveness of the national economy, in order to improve the country's integration into global production chains. This includes the promotion of the Brazilian games and electronic entertainment industry, mainly through the Innovation Diplomacy Program (PDI), executed by the Division for Science, Technology, and Innovation (DCTEC).

Programa Diplomacia da Inovação (Innovation Diplomacy Program)

The Innovation Diplomacy Program (PDI), launched by Itamaraty in 2017, seeks to break down the stereotypes linked to Brazil's image abroad and show a country that produces knowledge, products and services in sectors on the technological frontier. The PDI brings together the technological promotion activities carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' posts abroad, which are guided by three institutional missions: to promote Brazil's image as an innovative nation; to foster connections between Brazilian and foreign partners; and to engage agents from Brazilian innovation ecosystems in internationalization processes. Among its activities, the PDI, in partnership with the MRE's trade and cultural promotion areas, has sought to promote the Brazilian games industry worldwide, either by attracting investors to Brazil or by taking creators and developers to fairs abroad.
