Yaku

Yaku, meaning water in Kichwa, is a music group consolidated in 2017.
Is formed by musicians coming from different parts of Ecuador.
Compositions come from diferent genres like currulao, jazz and pop; that converges to create a fusion.

Each member of the group has different specialties in both the instruments and the music they play. This characteristic gives a particular sound to the ensemble and its intention is to portray Afro-Ecuadorian rhythms with different musical genres without seeking to be pigeonholed into one.
When speaking of Afro-Ecuadorian genres, there is a solid support of typical melodies such as Mapalé, bambuco, currulao. This research is born from several classes taken in an academic context such as: Latin percussion, community laboratory-place of enunciation Isla Trinitaria-, Politics and culture in Latin America: visibility of the music in marginal areas. Part of the curriculum at Universidad de las Artes in Ecuador.
