The Anglo Theatre is part of Instituto Cultural Anglo-Uruguayo, the Uruguayan leading institution of English teaching. We produce and promote plays of Uruguayan and British playwrights. In the case of the Uruguayan dramaturgy we focus on promoting it internationally. We also produce theatre plays in English for learners of the language. Our mission includes the promotion of Uruguayan emergent theatre artists and musicians as well. Some of our shows are: “Macbeth” and “Every Brilliant Thing” (British playwrights), “Supermercado” (Uruguayan Dramaturgy-emergent artist), “20.000 Leagues Under the Sea” (Educational theatre), “Chango Beat” (music-emergent artist)

Macbeth is one of Shakespeare´s greatest tragedies: a darkly atmospheric drama of crime and punishment, of temptation, guilt, remorse and retribution. Macbeth himself, a brave warrior, is fatally impelled by supernatural forces, by his proud wife, and by his own flourishing ambition. As he embarks on his murderous course to gain and retain the crown of Scotland, we see the shocking emotional and psychological effects on both, Lady Macbeth and he himself. The cruel ironies of their destiny are conveyed in poetry of unsurpassed power in this superb play.

20.000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA - Jules Verne

At the beginning of the story we learn that sailors have reported seeing a giant sea creature in various parts of the world. The creature looks like a giant whale and authorities believe that it has attacked and destroyed many ships. The government invites Ned Land, a famous whale and shark hunter, Professor Aronnax, a famous writer and Marine Scientist to lead an expedition to hunt and kill the beast. After many days out at sea, they find the giant creature. In fact the creature is a strange ship. Once inside, they meet Captain Nemo. Captain Nemo is a scientist and her life on this ship is a secret. The name of the ship is Nautilus and Captain Nemo travels around the world waiting for an opportunity to destroy her enemy. She can’t let our heroes go free. They must stay on the Nautilus. Our heroes are not happy and decide to plan an escape. This is the beginning of a journey through the world’s oceans and seas, tropical islands and even the lost city of Atlantis.

CHANGO BEAT - Música

"Chango Beat" is a musical group of Montevidean songs, with musical fusions influenced by murga, candombe, Latin American folklore and beat music. The songs are presented in a show that seeks the explosion of sounds, generating climates that connect emotionally with the audience. The group stands out for the variety of rhythms in their songs and the arrangements and vocal performance of their members. Winner of 'Movida Joven' in Montevideo (2016). In June 2018 they participated in the First Festival Sonamos Latin America held in Brazil, in the city of Ribeirao Preto - Sao Paulo, where they were able to show their work abroad. In November they will participate in Sonamos Latin America Festival to be held in Santa Fé, Argentina.
